Sankranthi marks the sun's transformative journey as it moves into the Makara Rashi (Capricorn), signifying a new direction and the promise of brighter days ahead. On the 9th of January, 2026, the Cultural Club Aroop proudly hosted the Makara Sankranthi celebrations, an event that epitomises India's rich cultural diversity and unity. Known by different names across the states of India, Sankranthi marks a new beginning for harvest and prosperity.
The tradition of Bhogi Mantalu was also observed, symbolising the shedding of old and negative things and thoughts, making way for renewal and positivity. The event featured several engaging competitions, including kite making and rangoli art, which showcased the creativity and enthusiasm of participants. The rangoli exhibition was especially captivating, with different theme-based artistic designs reflecting the cultural and spiritual essence. The aroma of freshly prepared Pongal, a delicious dish made of rice, jaggery and ghee, wafted through the air, inviting everyone to indulge in its warmth and sweetness, reflecting the simplicity and joy of the village life.
Known widely as the farmers festival, with the agrarian roots and the cyclical bounty of nature, the celebration at the college was a lively blend of tradition and joy, reinforcing the values of unity, gratitude and new beginnings. Around 300 students participated in the celebrations and made it a huge success.
