Bonalu is an expression of gratitude to Goddess Mahakali, the fierce protector and divine mother of Telangana, celebrated predominantly in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Bonalu marks a time when communities come together to honour the goddess for her blessings and protection from diseases and calamities. The festival’s name, Bonalu, derives from the Telugu word “Bhojanalu,” meaning meals or offerings. Devotees prepare a special meal, traditionally rice cooked with jaggery, milk and curd, served in a decorated pot called “Bonam.” This offering symbolizes their devotion and thanks giving to the goddess, seeking her continued blessings and safeguarding.
Over the centuries, Bonalu evolved into an exuberant festival marked by vibrant processions, traditional dances, and ritualistic ceremonies. At the heart of the college campus, the Cultural Club Aroop took the initiative to honour this rich heritage by organizing the Bonalu celebrations on 18th July 2025.
The campus buzzed with Students and faculty, united with enthusiasm to prepare the “Bonam” the sacred offering to the goddess. Students and faculty performed the traditional rituals of offerings and shared the joy of the festival. The students performed traditional dances echoing the spirit of the festival.
